One of the odd realizations about transitioning from college life to post grad-life is coming to terms with how much time you actually spend at work sitting at your desk. Slowly but surely your workstation transforms into your own personal habitat, and you start finding that there are many small comforts of home that are necessary to have on hand to help make your day go smoother. Usually these are the things you don’t think about until you need them.
Everyone’s workspace is different but here are some essential items that are extremely helpful to have stashed away in your desk.
Feminine hygiene products: So you never have to worry about having an “emergency”
Hand sanitizer: Much like school, germs spread quickly through out the office. Do whatever you can to keep them at bay.
Floss: To avoid walking into an afternoon meeting with food in your teeth.
Safety pins: A quick and easy remedy for any potential fashion emergencies
An inspirational quote: Something to serve as motivation, whether it’s to always do your best or to just get through the day.
A cardigan: To turn almost any shirt or dress into a work appropriate outfit and to avoid spending the entire day shivering.
Snacks: To have on hand for a mid-day pick-me-up. Wheat Thins and Goldfish are personal favorites.
Makeup: Freshen up before a presentation, before you head out for happy hour, or for days when you overslept.
Contact solution: Keep a travel-sized bottle on hand in case you ever need to adjust one of your contacts. Getting work done is a lot harder to do if you can’t see.
Headache medication: To suppress any headaches caused by stress, a hangover, or irritating co-workers.
