The Best and Worst Fashion Trends of 2013

It’s the day before New Year’s Eve, so before you throw on your glitziest outfit and sky-high heels, take a look at the best and worst trends that had people talking in 2013. Remember, what works for you may not work for everyone else; that’s why they’re trends.

1. Back to the ’90s

Any excuse to go back to my childhood is always a good thing. From grunge plaid to overalls and crop tops, ’90s fashion ruled the 2013 scene.

2. Statement Sweatshirts

A sweatshirt I can actually wear out in public and not get teased for looking like I just rolled out of bed (even if I actually did)? Amazing.

3. Envelope Clutch

A great day-to-night item, this was the “it” bag of 2013.

4. Coated Jeans

They look and feel like leather–but without the price tag.

5. Graphic Black and White

The ladylike allure that ruled the Spring 2013 runways was more than just your basic colorblocked neutrals.

1. Peplum

If done right, peplum can look cute and add shape. Stick to basic fabrics like cotton to keep the piece simple. Sheer peplum dress=major no-no.

2. High-Low Hems

Unless you’re tall with legs like Gisele, the “mullet” look makes short people look too disproportioned. It may be all “business in the front, party in the back”, but it is difficult to pull off. Khloe’s high-low dress basically looks like a bandage dress with a tail.

3. Wedge Sneakers

Who thought this trend would be cool?

4. Ear Cuffs

See above. So over it. No need for a bedazzled cartilage.

5. Nail Art

I’m sorry. Although it looks really pretty, I can’t even handle painting my right hand one color without making a mess. Give your nails clean slate (and fresh mani) for the coming year.

Here’s to amazing new fashion trends in 2014. Happy New Year!
