So here’s my question: At what point do we stop caring about what others think and just start doing what makes you happy?
I’m not talking about you asking your friend what filter you should use on Instagram. I’m not talking about the fact that I still throw birthday parties for my dog even though my friends and family think I’m nuts.
I’m talking about relationships.
We all know the old saying ‘you can’t help who you fall in love with.’ Though this may be true, the person who you fall in love with may not be as pleasing to others as they are to you.
If everyone in your clic despises your significant other, it’s clearly a sign that you should get out of the relationship. It’s like when you had a group project in college and there was ALWAYS that one person who never did any work and EVERYONE hated them… you know who I’m talking about.
No matter how old we get, we’ll always long for our friends’ approval when it comes to our partner. Regardless of your specific situation, one of four things are destined to happen:
1 – Your friends love your boyfriend or girlfriend and you all live happily ever after.
2 – Your friends hate the person you’re dating and refuse to hang out with you guys, but deep down they still love you anyway.
3 – You realize that your friends are right and you you break up with them.
4 – One of you can’t take the drama any longer so you choose your significant other over your friends. Then, you live happily ever after with your significant other until you realize that all of your friends were right.
For all of the people out there who have lost a friend because of a relationship, I feel for you because I know how that goes. If they haven’t come to their senses yet, they will. And if they don’t, you probably didn’t need them in your life to begin with.
