Let’s All Suck It Up And Enjoy Valentine’s Day

vday chocolates

Valentine’s Day was awesome in elementary school when everyone got about 25 cards from each kid in their class. If you’re a twenty-something guy receiving 25 V-day cards you just might be a player and if you’re a twenty-something girl getting multiple V-day cards, roses, and chocolates – you go girl.

Anyway, Valentine’s Day is either loved or hated, but we already know that. Couples usually like the holiday because it gives a reason to exchange gifts and celebrate with a fancy dinner (which almost seems like an extension of the “anniversary”). Single people often express more dislike for it because it reminds them that they don’t have a significant other.

While it’s hard to disagree with the fact that Valentine’s Day is a reminder that you are or aren’t in a relationship, it’s just a day. This year it happens to be a Saturday. It’s a Saturday – that’s all it is. There’s probably been other Saturdays in your life that have reminded you that you don’t have a significant other, such as: weddings, engagement parties, other holidays, re-watching the Bachelor or the Bachelorette, and those times you were the third wheel at the bar. And there certainly has been other Saturdays in your life that have reminded you that you do have a significant other, such as: anniversaries, birthdays, holidays, date nights, receiving roses you weren’t expecting, and getting those random “I love you” texts.

There are two undeniably great things about Valentine’s Day that no one should miss out on: chocolates and roses. Those specialty chocolates in the heart shaped boxes are THE BOMB. Maybe they taste even better because they’re the type of chocolates people typically only buy on special occasions. And this Saturday of all days is a great day to treat yourself to some of those chocolates. Buy a box, or go cray and buy two boxes, and eat those suckers up. No one will know if you’re buying them for yourself or that special someone.

Roses on the other hand can be tricky. A girl buying herself roses is slightly more difficult than buying chocolates; you could say it’s weird? Maybe? Although there was recently an article claiming that men do like receiving flowers, they’re just not as open about it as women, so there’s always that. But if there’s no chance you’re going to go buy some roses for yourself, exchange with your besties. “Galentine’s Day” is legit. It’s 2015, a girl can celebrate Valetine’s Day with the people she loves (aka her besties) and exchange chocolates and roses.

The couples out there already know what to do: food, chocolates, roses, throw in a couples massage if you’re feeling extra festive.

Now, everyone go and have a lovely, chocolate filled Saturday!
