Adulting is a difficult thing to do. You’re in your mid-20’s, have a decent job and pay your own bills. That means your life’s great, right? Yeah, I didn’t think so. The truth is, you’re probably stumbling through life and making it up as you go along (pretty sure that’s the real definition of an adult anyway). You don’t know what you’re doing. And that’s okay.

Even though you stumble, you always have a chance to improve. Just think: if you use any of the following tips, you’ll have so much free time to read and expand your mind! Or, you’ll have more time to binge-watch Netflix and rewatch “Game of Thrones” for the eighth time. Either way, your life will be easier!

1. Use old door knobs for towel hangers

I hope you’re not that person who uses the same towel 12 days in a row. If you are, then you probably don’t need a towel hanger. For the rest of us who aren’t heathens, hanging your towels can sometimes be a pain. With so many towels lying around, you wouldn’t want a spider to crawl in one and surprise you when you’re getting out of the shower, right?

To remedy this, just screw in some sweet door knobs (which you can find at any garage sale) to the wall, and you’ll have some artsy looking towel hangers! Now, you don’t have to worry about those pesky arachnids!

2. Use aluminum foil instead of dryer sheets

Although dryer sheets are great, they can leave a static charge that may or may not cause you to yelp like a little schoolgirl. If you’re not a fan of being slightly electrocuted every time you do the laundry, there is an alternative.

Using a ball of aluminum foil does the same job the dryer sheet does. It reduces the static charge and is much cheaper than dryer sheets. Just toss in the ball and let it work its magic!

3. Use magnets on the bottom of your hammer

Is there anything more frustrating than pounding away on a shelf you didn’t want to work on today? Yes. Yes, there is. It’s that moment when you’re trying to hold all of the nails in your hand and they all fall on the ground. If you didn’t have high blood pressure before this impromptu physics session, you surely do now.

Here’s an awesome solution: glue a magnet to the bottom of the hammer. Then, place your nails on the magnet. The nails will stay in a handy location and you don’t have to worry about dropping them and punching a hole through the wall in frustration. Save your hand. Use the magnet.

4. Put nail polish on your keys

Yep — it’s genius. Ever fumble around for your keys at night? Trying to find the right key out of the 20 on the key ring is a bit annoying. So why not differentiate them?

Place the base of each key in nail polish. That way, every key is now color coded. *Note: colorblind people may have a slight issue with this. Proceed with caution.

5. Use styrofoam noodles in your garage

You know exactly how frustrating this is, don’t you? You get out of your car while texting your friends. Suddenly, you hear a loud BANG! You regretfully look at your car door and the new scratch that now calls your door home. How do you stop this madness?!

Easy: tape a Styrofoam noodle to the walls of your garage. When you’re too busy playing Candy Crush, your car won’t have to suffer for it. Not only does this save your car door, but it also saves your garage walls from harassment.

6. Use a squeegee to get pet hair out of your carpet

Fur balls. Shedding. Most pets have a hair problem. They tend to just leave their hair on everything they touch. The struggle is real.

With all that hair stuck in your carpet, you may have tried to vacuum it all up. While that may adequately work, another solution exists. If you use a squeegee on your carpet, you can take the hair right out of there!

7. Use baking soda on almost anything

Baking soda deserves its own list. Seriously, it can solve almost any problem in your house. Specifically, you can use baking soda to clear out a nasty smelling fridge. Or, you can use it to make your gross-smelling shoes smell store fresh! It really is the handyman of the house!

8. Use ice cubes to remove indentations from your carpet

Whether it’s your couch, Lazy-Boy or your entertainment stand, all of these items are going to cause some pretty gnarly indentations in your carpet. While some indentations come out easily, others don’t.

If you place ice cubes on the indentations, the water will smooth them out. It’s a quick, easy and cheap fix!

9. Use toothpaste to clean the bathroom sink

It makes sense, right? You use toothpaste to make your teeth pearly white. It should be used to clean the very thing you spit it into every day. And it totally works!

Take toothpaste and squeeze it onto a sponge. Then, use the sponge to clean away any streaks and gross stuff that has built up in your sink.

10. Use a lemon wedge and kosher salt to disinfect your cutting board

When it comes to using a cutting board, you want to be careful. You always want to disinfect the board to be safe. However, you may be surprised to hear that there’s a way to disinfect without using chemicals. If you’re into natural solutions, try sprinkling your board with coarse salt and scouring it with half of a lemon. After you rub the board down, let it sit for five minutes and wipe it off. Now, your board is disinfected and isn’t soaked in chemicals!

Hopefully, these hacks will help you in the near future. I challenge you to go try one of these. Go make your life easier…today!
