I can’t tell you the last time I was kind of excited for a new television show (okay – yes I can… Zooey Deschanel’s New Girl… but we can pretend that isn’t the case).
HBO is coming out with a new show based on the lives of broke 20-something girls who recently graduated from college (OMG, that’s like us!) and I am SUPER excited/nervous for it. Executive produced by Judd Apatow, it’s pretty much bound to be a hit. However, the writer/director/star, Lena Dunham, isn’t the most attractive actress out there and shit could get boring reaaaaal quick.
Here is why it has the chance to be GREAT:
First of all, it’s realistic. Most 20-something girls are not stick thin hotties. Most 20-something girls have ‘boyfriends’ or ‘hookup buddies’ who treat them like shit. Most 20-something girls are still working for no pay (internships) even after graduating college. And most 20-something girls are completely broke and get no help from their parents. ‘Girls‘ includes all of these themes.
Second of all, it’s ‘2 Broke Girls‘ badass sister. I mean, duh… It’s on HBO.
And third of all, it’s on HBO. Almost every show that airs on HBO is awesome. Their shows do not feature over-exaggerated humor (cough Happy Endings cough)… They feature realistic themes, naked people, a lot of sex, and vulgar jokes. Count me in.
Dunham’s ‘Girls‘ seems like it has a 50/50 chance of being a hit. I love how she talks about being 13 pounds overweight. I love how she talks about starving herself in order to pay rent. I love how she’s kind of ugly and looks like she’s from the 1950’s. BUT, these are just things seen in the trailer. The show could be horribly boring and people could quickly get sick of watching unattractive people on television. There’s a reason ‘television reality’ is different from ‘real-life reality.’ Take a look at the trailer for yourself:

So… what do you think? Will you be watching ‘Girls’ when it premieres April 15th on HBO at 1030pm? I will. I just hope it’s good!
