How To Wear Hearts On Valentine’s Day Without Looking Cliché

What to wear on Valentine’s Day is a dilemma that has baffled me for many years. Back in high school, in an attempt to be edgy and avant-garde, I donned an all-black ensemble in honor (or, more accurately, in protest) of Valentine’s Day. The idea of a holiday created by the media that exists primarily as a money-making opportunity makes some people want nothing to do with the colors red and pink for the entire month of February. While I totally understand this mentality, I think it’s fun to embrace the Valentine’s Day theme a little bit, even if purely as a fashion opportunity.

Instead of going all-out with an explosion of red and pink, I like the idea of wearing hearts on Valentine’s Day, but wearing them in an unexpected way, like on a belt, bandana, or watch. Hearts can be fun and cute all year round, so if you choose versatile heart-themed pieces that incorporate well into the rest of your wardrobe, you’ll be able to wear them even when Valentine’s Day is over. Check out my picks below for the most non-cliché heart-themed pieces I could find (some red and pink may have snuck into the bunch)!
