Getting ready for that time of year again – game night is fast approaching, euphoria is on the rise, and fans across the globe are planning their menus, vacuuming sofas and warming up their palms for the biggest night of the football season – the Super Bowl. Whether you are a fan or a hater, it will be difficult to avoid the buzz, so why not join in on the excitement and become a devotee. Here’s my personal take on why I mark Super Bowl night in red in all my calendars.
The Climax of the Season
Super Bowl is the game of the season and, if you have somehow managed to miss them all, this is the one you definitely should not! The regular season was long, the playoffs have been exhausting, but the Super Bowl is something special and electrifying. It is a celebration of the game and a once-in-a-lifetime shot of reaching the stars for players and fans alike.
A Chance to See Your Friends
Super Bowl is also an opportunity to host a great party and see all your friends. Once you reach your twenties, you realize that you are not that close to some of your old buddies and girlfriends anymore. That is why such an event is a chance to get together and watch the game as a part of a group, reminisce about old times, like that one time when Sue wanted to kiss a quarterback…
An Excuse to Visit a Sports Bar
A sports bar is usually a boy’s club with a “No Girls Allowed” sign hanging at the front door. But, during Super Bowl weekend, there are no boundaries! You can go to a sports bar with your friends and not feel ostracized for having breasts. To be honest, Super Bowl is best experienced in a sports bar, so do not miss this chance.
Try Out New Recipes
I do love football, but I also love cooking, so I always invite a few people over for a game and prepare something tasty and nutritious. Since there is always beer involved – you just cannot watch Super Bowl without drinking beer – I try to keep things simple and healthy when it comes to the food. Most of my friends enjoy chicken and that is why I stick to easy and quick chicken recipes. Trust me, these meals get more cheers than a touchdown!
Players, Players, Players
Let’s face it – football players are hot! Super Bowl is like the showcase of male beauty, so try not to blink too much.
Movie Trailers and Commercials
With many people watching the game around the world, it is no surprise that big companies and movie studios decide to air their newest commercials and hottest movie trailers during the breaks. Some of the finest commercials and movie announcements in history were first aired with the Super Bowl – sure, there have been failures as well, but they are still fun to watch.
The Halftime Show
Remember the Justin Timberlake/Janet Jackson controversy at Super Bowl XXXVIII? Of course you do – everyone does! The game’s halftime show is always a special event featuring famous singers and bands and this year will be no different. Headlined by Coldplay and supported by Beyoncé and Bruno Mars, this halftime show will surely be one of the best yet. Plus, it is all live and nobody knows what can happen, or what piece of wardrobe might malfunction.
My Own Experience
This is probably the main reason I adore the Super Bowl: eleven years ago, my father took me to Super Bowl XXXIX when the Patriots defeated the Eagles. I still remember everything – the preparations, the trip to Jacksonville, the Jaguars’ stadium, the crowds of people, the taste of the food, and a number of amazing plays! It was a close game and way beyond my expectations, so I keep watching the Super Bowl year after year to relive that excitement.
I Love This Game!
These are not the only reasons why I love Super Bowl, but are the most obvious ones. It brings people together, lets them enjoy their favorite past-time activity and really is one of the biggest sports dates of the year. Therefore, get ready for February 7th and enjoy it!
