Apparently it’s the most wonderful time of the year. (Side Note: I might be the Grinch.) A lot of friend groups do Secret Santa’s or White Elephants (wtf is that anyways? Someone, anyone, help a sister out). I know my friends and I do SS, have for a couple of years now. Sometimes we all struggle with what to get for someone even if we know everything about her (or him). The best strategy for SS is to stay simple but in an area that you know your secret BFF likes. Below I’ve complied a list of some great gifts your BFF is bound to love.
1. Cute coffee mug
If you’ve got a coffee-loving bestie, mugs are always the way to go. They can be used for coffee, or if you’re feeling less classy, you can always put some form of alcohol in them. Better yet, just put coffee and alcohol in them. Win, win for everyone right?
Evenly Henson has a lot of cute mugs like the one above. Searching Etsy is also a good place to look.
2. Personalized Tervis tumbler
Similar to a mug, Tervis tumblers are great gifts. Who doesn’t love a travel cup that can hold hot OR cold items comfortably? If you don’t please stop reading this and go evaluate your life. Bye. They’re perfect because your friend can use them as they go to work/class or keep them in an office. Important: don’t get one of the pre-made ones. From the looks of it you can now customize your tumbler to whatever you want it to have and say on it.
3. World map
A lot of people travel abroad during college, so any sort of map is a good gift to give if it’s a map of the country they went to or a skyline of the city. They make great gifts because they bring back memories from their time spent somewhere they hopefully still love!
Serengetee just launched an AWESOME map of the world where you can scratch off the places you’ve been as you visit them.
4. Something with their favorite quote
Everyone has a favorite movie. They might have multiple but one always sticks out. Grab your friend a cool poster with their favorite movie quote. Last year a friend got me a poster with an outline of characters from Alice In Wonderland and I love it. I wanted to get my SS one like it this year, but I found these from Blue Poppy Gallery and love them.
5. School memorabilia
This one’s easy. If you don’t love your college – y u go there? Rather than heading to the bookstore and buying them a gift, make one yourself. Everyone loves blankets or paintings—something more than the cliché item from a bookstore.
A friend of mine made quite few of the above pieces for her apartment. All you need is a canvas, little nails and some string. Make it school colored and bam!
6. A calendar
We all need them. Whether it’s for your friend’s desk or one to hang on a wall, get them a calendar with a celebrity/puppies/locations/funny quotes or whatever it is they like. Calendars are a great gift.
Be sure to check out if their favorite sports team does a fun calendar. I’ve seen quite a few NHL teams put out a Pucks and Pups calendar like the one above! Cute men & puppies = heaven. <3
7. Jewelry
No, I don’t mean the typical “here are some earrings I found you” bullshit. I mean nice and meaningful jewelry. Coordinate bracelets and state/county outlines are one of the best. I’ve gotten several friends the state/country outlines and they love them.
I’ve found some cute state/country necklaces from McLaughlin Creations on Etsy! They’re really nice and my friends love them. You can even place the heart over whatever town you’d like in the state/country.
8. Reasons ILY book
A cute and meaningful idea would be a handmade book of reasons you love your BFF. A small little scrapbook obviously works, but it’s a nice idea to show how much they mean to you. I got one a couple years back and it almost made me cry it was so sweet. It’s not too much effort, but it does mean a lot to the friend who gets it. You can always buy one but making it will be that much cuter!
Search crafty sites to get ideas! I found some cute ones that include cards and scrapbook paper. One of my favorites is above.
Enjoy the holidays!
