2014 saw a bevvy of trends–ones we’ll gladly embrace into 2015 and ones that should be left being (like in the ’90s). In case you’ve been living under a rock, here’s what you missed:
Overalls
The ’90s came back in a big way–most notably through fashion. Those overalls you and every kid wore in elementary school re-emerged (and not in a good way). File these in the “looks good on celebrities but not me” section of the time capsule and open in 384 years.
Flatforms
Add these to the box. They looked good in 1998, but you’re a classy twenty-something now who should worry about breaking her ankle on a pair of heels, not a pair of Rocket Dog platform sandals. Flat sandals stay flat; platforms stay tall. There is no in-between.
Chokers
Not like those lacy strings you could put over your head–these were more grown-up (maybe)–as long as you chose the right layout that was more delicate and fun than Cinderella.
Unless that’s your thing, then kudos to you.

Crop Tops
The 2013 trend continued and even made its way to the red carpet, with Olivia Pope herself boldly going where no crop top had ever gone before at the 2014 SAG Awards.
Normcore
It was the most Googled fashion trend of 2014, probably because most people had no idea what the f*ck the fashion world was talking about. Known as “chic tourist”, normcore turned hot street stylers into fashionistas in even the blandest of colors. So basically, anything from the Gap, your old Levis and white Keds.
Workout Wear
Going to the gym? You could fool anyone now that workout wear is an everyday thing.
Bucket Bags
The 2014 “It” bag.

Jumpsuits
No dress? No problem. Jumpsuits give you the best of both worlds in comfort-chic. (Though going to the bathroom might take an arm and a leg).

Flash Tattoos
Often seen at music festivals, these temporary metallic tats/skin jewelry made you look like an Egyptian princess with a very random tan line.

Wearing sweats in public never looked better.

Mules
Your grandma’s favorite shoes had a moment–although to her, they’re probably not a trend if she wears that kind of style all the time.
