It’s a new year, and for many that means it’s either time to move on, or in some cases, hang on. Which brings the question every 20-something must ask themselves at the end of a break up: am I Selena Gomez or Justin Bieber?

Unless you’ve been under a rock since 2011, you know that Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber have been in a round and round relationship cycle with more twists than the last season of Game of Thrones. Show of hands if you’ve been in one those relationships. Like a diet you can’t start, it’s a relationship you can’t quit. Or maybe you can?

Justin represents the hopeless romantic, the desperately optimistic, and the can’t-move-on kind of daters.

Show of hands: how many of you still post #throwbackthursday pictures featuring your ex? Who still hangs out with their ex because they believe they still have a chance? Do you spend all your time talking about your ex to your friends? Perhaps you’re dating other people just to show that you’re mature and living a new life? Lastly, who still loves their ex?

If you answered yes to one or more of those questions, you’re in the same zone as the Biebs. Justin, who has done all of the above based on social media and interviews, even said the following when he stopped by The Bert Show, “I think we just needed time to grow for ourselves and we’re like, ‘maybe we’ll come back together in the future.’ And it ended up being so long and we just grew apart and we’re just not the same people anymore.”

Sound like you?

Or maybe you’re handling the break up as a form of revival a la Selena Gomez.

You don’t post pictures of your ex on social media. You publicly do your best to distance yourself. You spend more time with your squad. Maybe you’ve made yourself busy with numerous projects? Going on dates with different people? Or could it be that you’ve finally just had enough?

Selena represents the done with it, moving on, ‘I have closure’ and the past is the past kind of daters.

Is this you? Have you shut the door on that same old love? In an interview with Rolling Stone, Selena made it clear that she’s fully done with that part of her life and apologized for feeding the rumor mill by allowing the two to be seen hanging out. “What I would love to be printed is that I am so beyond done with talking about that, and him.”

Something tells me we’re all going to play either role at some point in our lives. It’s just a matter of figuring out what is real and what isn’t.

So which is going to be your anthem for 2016? “I Will Always Love You” or “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together?” Let us know in the comments below!
