Ever get the feeling you’re dating around to find a new bestie? Making new girlfriends post-college in the real, working world is challenging. Of course you’re not trying to replace your irreplaceable college girlfriends who will one day be your bridesmaid but finding some girlfriends to have wine nights, enjoy happy hour, try new restaurants or go shopping with would be nice. Why isn’t there a dating site to find some new BFFs? If only we could be friends with those sitcom TV characters we welcome into our homes each week and can often relate so well to. Here are five female characters I wish were my BFFs:
1. Mindy Laheri (The Mindy Project) – An incredible sense of humor, bad luck with guys and hilariously awkward yet relate-able moments. She is a well-educated, independent woman who loves wearing sparkly outfits and can go out to the club or sit at home and watch TV and eat ice cream. Can’t you picture the two of you eating Pad Thai, while quoting rom-coms and out-doing one another’s embarrassing moments while dancing around in pajamas? She’d also make you feel like you were super fit and loved exercise and could help motivate her at the gym instead of Danny. Not to mention she’s a lady doctor and could provide solid medical advice. Friend type: comic relief
Jessica Day (New Girl) – Just think of all the retro Mod Cloth style clothes you’d be able to borrow with this friendship as well as hosting parties in the coolest loft while playing True American. Not to mention she has fun and cool guy friends a chill, bartending bf and a model bestie named Cece that you’d automatically gain as a friend. She’s the intelligent, girl next door kind of pretty. Even when she’s mad and angry she’s sweet and even tempered and easily forgives -probably the school teacher in her. Jess definitely possesses the traits for a long-standing friendship. Marnie Marie Michaels (GIRLS)– Out of all the girls on this show I think Marnie would win the title of most normal and friend worthy on my list. Despite currently being in a bit of a quarter-life crisis, she at least acts like she has got it together…somewhat. She’d be your adult-like and highly organized girl. She’d definitely be the friend that would help make you more artistically cultured. She is hard-working whether at an art gallery or hostess or unemployed. She can be a bit pretentious and diva-like, but hey, we all have our moments. She may be the friend that sleeps with your ex, though, so be cautious when introducing her to guys you are dating or interested in. Friend type: the talker/diva.
Penny (The Big Bang Theory) – Everyone has that friend that makes you feel like a genius. Penny would be that friend. She’d be the friend that you would go get your nails done with and sit on the couch watching a movie but probably would refrain from going out on the town with her. She’d distract the boys even with her dumb blonde remarks. She’s super outgoing and would definitely help in making more new friends. She’d also (at least she used to) have the hook-up at the Cheesecake Factory…free cheesecake=instant BFFs. Amy even calls her “bestie.” She can also calm your nerves by singing soft kitty too you. Friend type: the fun one/stereo-typical dumb blonde
Alex Dunphy (Modern Family): She’d be like your younger sister that is smarter than you and could probably help you with your grad school work even though she’s just a senior in high school. She’d be your little project where you could help her with her fashion sense and awkwardness and she’d give you advice that would be wise beyond both your ages combined. She’s looking for friends too so both of you would be in the same friend-seeker boat. Not to mention by default you could be biffles with her gay uncles and help babysit the sassiest little girl ever, Lilly. Friend type: the listener/intellectual
