A few months ago, my dad called me up with the best news ever. No, he wasn’t going to pay off my student loans… And no, he didn’t buy me a basket full of kittens.  Okay, so one of the best things ever.

My dad told me I was getting a new car.

Now this might be exciting news for most people, but for me it was life changing. Why you may ask? Because for the past five years I have been driving an Olds Mobile Cutlass Ciera.

Not familiar with the car?

It’s a beaut, isn’t it? So it’s a mild understatement to say that I was a little stoked about ditching the loser cruiser. Can someone say car shopping? What I didn’t realize before this experience is that shopping for a car is only fun for about 45 seconds.

You pull up to the dealership and see all the bright shiny new cars. Look at the red one! Ooh, that one has a sunroof! (That’s the extent of my car knowledge…) But then, after the allotted 45 seconds, you realize you can’t actually afford any of those cars.

Do you know what’s worse than car shopping?

Having your dad car shop for you while you sit at work in a different state praying that you don’t end up with a mini van.

He texted me pictures of puke green cars. I got Facebook messages of cars with giant dents. Every five seconds my phone would buzz with a new hideous car. Meanwhile, I’m trying to answer him without my boss seeing. First world problems, am I right?

I know this sounds like a horror story albeit with some comic relief, but don’t worry it has a happy ending.

Red, shiny, & sun roof. JACKPOT.
Red, shiny, & a sun roof??? JACKPOT.

Check out that new car face!

Little did I know that I could have done one thing to make this whole experience a little less painful.

Gone to Cars.com.

They take the drama out of car shopping and now, if you take a picture just like mine above, they might even pay off your car loans up to $25,000.
