Is it just me, or was something off about last night’s Grammy Awards? There was a Broadway musical, Beyonce dropped in for a minute, Tori Kelly wasn’t impressed, and Ariana Grande thought she was funny. Let’s break down the highs and lows of the evening.
Anna Wintour opened the show. Lol, jk. It was Taylor Swift.
From opening the show and welcoming us into the year 1989, what part of the evening wasn’t about Taylor? The haircut, the dress, the proud parent of Ed Sheeran that she was, and let’s not forget the three Grammys she won. Perhaps the high point was when she slayed Kanye West after making history and winning album of the year for the second time. Your move Kanye, Twitter is waiting.
There was a tribute to Nicole Richie’s adopted father, Lionel Richie.
The original ‘Hello’ singer got the tribute he deserved which featured stand out performances by John Legend and Demi Lovato. And because you can’t just watch a tribute, Lionel got up there and turned the Grammy’s into a wedding – all night long.
Justin Bieber looked like a confused 90s pre-teen on stage.
But his music is like really good now, so it’s okay.
Kendrick slayed.
Much like Beyonce did at the Super Bowl, Kendrick made his performance a statement. He started off in prison and then moved to a tribe like set up, all while spitting passion with every word and gesture.
Adele’s performance moved us to tears, even though we couldn’t hear half of it.
The best part was what she did after. She went to In N Out. Girllllll.
Lady Gaga showed us that she is actually David Bowie.
Just when you thought Lady Gaga was getting boring and classy, she turned into David Bowie. It was equal parts eye-catching and strange. You couldn’t look away, and when it was over you weren’t sure what exactly had happened. One thing is certain though – Lady Gaga is getting closer to winning an Oscar. She can play literally anyone.
Country music showed us how good looking their talent is.
Carrie Underwood and Sam Hunt were match made in the gym as both heated up the stage. Someone find out who their personal trainers are ASAP. Little Big Town also represented Nashville with their chilling rendition of ‘Girl Crush’ as did Chris Stapleton.
The show ended with Pitbull and ratings dropped immediately.
Pitbull? Really? For some reason Enrique Iglesias and J-Lo weren’t available, so Robin Thicke got trotted out to sing a hook and Sofia Vergara danced for no apparent reason.
Well that’s it until next year, which will undoubtedly be the year of Adele and Beyonce (and Kanye?). Long live music.
