This story is devastating – a parent’s worst nightmare for sure. 20 year old Indiana University student, Lauren Spierer, has been missing since Friday, June 3, 2011. She was last seen walking home to her apartment after a night of partying with friends, three blocks from her apartment in Bloomington, Indiana around 4:30 am on Friday. Spierer did not make it home to her apartment, as surveillance footage from her apartment complex shows. Her keys and purse were found on the path to her apartment and her cell phone and shoes were left in the bar. Spierer’s life-threatening heart condition, which requires daily medication, makes her disappearance even more terrifying than it already is.
Spierer had just completed her sophomore year at Indiana University as an apparel and merchandising major. As a 2009 graduate of Edgemont High School in Scarsdale, NY, she was planning to return home in a few days to begin an internship at Antropologie in New York.
Lauren is 4’11”, weighs less than 100 pounds, and has blond hair & blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a light colored shirt over a white tank top, black leggings, and no shoes.

To my readers – just because we are not in college anymore (or if you are still in college – or even worse, high school) does not mean that it is okay to wander off by yourself when you are out at night. If it is late at night and you and your friends have been drinking, always have someone with you and never let a friend go somewhere alone – in cabs, on walks, anywhere! Especially if you are drunk – and especially if it is the middle of the night… even if you are right next to your apartment.
Forever Twenty Something’s thoughts and prayers go out to Lauren Spierer’s friends and family during this horrible time.
