Go big or go home is my motto when it comes to dressing for New Years Eve. It’s the one night where wearing head to toe sequins to a dive bar is socially acceptable! There are so many options when it comes to choosing the perfect dress for new years that it can be somewhat overwhelming. Every retailer from Forever21 to Saks 5th Avenue offers us with options upon options, of sequins, glitter, shimmer, and sheer dresses. New Years Eve dresses are so specific and festive so it can be hard to wear them the other 364 nights a year. That’s why I think it’s silly to spend a lot of your hard earned, 20-something salary on a dress that you’re probably only going to wear once! Here are a few of my top picks:
Under $50
I love this dress because its super femme, and flirty. The sequins are not overpowering but will catch the light while you dance all night. This dress is pretty simple, so it gives you a lot of room to go nuts with accessories and a fun shoe. I would pair this with a statement cuff, killer earrings, and jewel toned shoe.

This to me is the perfect New Years Eve Dress (and similar to what I’ll be wearing on the big night!) I love the ¾ sleeve length and the micro mini skirt. It’s sexy without screaming “LOOK AT ME!” The maroon color is so much more fun than your basic black sequins, but its still very sophisticated and again, gives you lots of room to accessorize! I’d pair this with a pair of statement earrings and a really fun shoe, like a sky high patent leather black pump.

Every fashion magazine is saying that the trend that must die in 2012 is the bandage dress! I don’t know about you, but I am hoping the bandage trend sticks around a little longer! They are the most flattering dresses, no matter what your shape. They stretch and move with you, and are comfortable while still looking sexy. This dress is so perfect for New Years and who doesn’t love a little red dress? The sheen of the fabric gives the dress a little extra festive boost that is required on New Years! I’d pair this dress with simple accessories; it’s all about your body in this one! A wrist of delicate gold bangles, big diamond studs, and a platform pump are all you need!
*Word to the wise…it’s cold on New Years…most likely you will need to pair your look with tights. Instead of grabbing your everyday opaque black tights, go out and buy a pair of sheer black nylons. They will give your look a night time feel.
Happy 2012!
