Lorde emerged on the scene with her Pure Heroine album release in September of 2013. Since then she has done everything but slow down. Lorde is definitely the poster child for weirdos but I’m so into it and here’s why.
First and foremost, this cover is everything.
Lorde recently covered Jeremih’s Don’t Tell ‘Em, it’s absolutely amazing and the video totally showcases her weirdness.
She wrote Yellow Flicker Beat for The Mockingjay: Part 1
She also oversaw the organization of the entire soundtrack album and contributed vocals to several of its songs. How awesome is that? Not to mention she recently totally fangirl-ed out on J.Law at the premiere of The Mockingjay: Part 1. God, I love her.
She’s young and did we mention, rich
Lorde recently turned 18, yes 18, and is estimated to be worth $11 million smack-a-roos.
She is talented
Lorde grew up listening to artists such as Etta James and Otis Redding. Her influences in music are about as complex as her songs; Lana Del Rey, James Blake, Yeasayer, Animal Collective, Kanye West, and Prince.
Lorde reminds us that there is true talent out there. Sure, there is some auto tuning involved to create the unusualness that is Lorde but she brings such soul and heart to her music unlike some of the chart toppers we hear today.
She is friends with T.Swift and loyal AF
Recently, DJ Diplo (I literally just googled him because I had no idea who he was) tweeted, “Someone should make a kickstarter to get Taylor Swift a booty”. Naturally, T.Swift’s army went on the attack via Twitter but it was Lorde who laid the finally smackdown on DJ Dipshit. Lorde tweeted, “should we do something about your tiny penis while we’re at it”. Ouch!
She rocks curly hair like no ones business
My hair is stick straight compared to Lorde’s but I’ve been friends with enough girls with curly hair to know that sometimes they wish it was anything but. Lorde truly owns her locks and makes straight haired girls everywhere a bit jealous. It’s crazy, voluminous and likely “full of secrets”.
She’s curvy
In a world full of photoshop and thin models, Lorde owns her curvaceous hips in outfits that totally flatter her figure. Her 90’s style is on point and she clearly has an amazing wardrobe full of crop tops.
She’s brutally honest
Lorde isn’t afraid to speak her mind and frankly, I think it’s a great quality to see in someone so young. Lorde has been categorized as being very outspoken but I think her perspective is spot on, especially on peer Selena Gomez.
She has self confidence
I mean hello, she calls herself a queen. Man, I really need some of that confidence. I’m over here like “ya, I’m a princess… just kidding, I’m that awkward serf that no one knows about”.
She let’s her freak flag fly
Lorde is a little strange but that’s just who she is. Her signature monster hand movements oddly work with her dark and eery voice. Her performances aren’t all about sex appeal and glitter, it’s her, a few lights, some smoke and her monster hands that pop open and shut with the beat. Her signature move is somewhat freaky and seizure like but she owns it and therefore, it’s okay by me.
