Forget about TGIF. In the TV world, it’s all about TGIT.
In case you’ve been living under a rock, Shonda Rimes has not one, not two, but THREE fantastic shows on ABC Thursday nights. It’s the day before the weekend, so curl up for the next three hours with a glass (or two) of wine and prepare to get nothing done. It’s the only way to do Thirsty Thursday right in the “adult world”.
Here are three perfect reasons why you should be watching TGIT:
Grey’s Anatomy: Yes, the show that started waayy back when you were in middle/high school is still alive and well, now in its 11th season. Who knew lowly intern Meredith and Dr. Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd would fall in love, fight, make up and become parents to two beautiful McChildren?

As the show nears its final season, Meredith, Derek, Dr. Alex Karev, Dr. Miranda Bailey and Dr. Richard Webber are the lone original characters that still have relevant story lines. Callie Torres married straight, divorced and then married lesbian; Cristina left after last season to pursue other aspirations; and so so much more became more about the drama and less about the ER. Remember when Miranda uttered the word “va-jay-jay” on national television? Or when Izzie married her dead patient? This show has been with you through thick and thin, and it’s still a guilty pleasure.
Scandal: Taking a departure from drama in the ER, we now have drama in the White House. Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) is the Monica Lewinsky to Tony Goldwyn’s President Clinton—er, Fitzgerald (Fitz). Olivia certainly has drama of her own, but let’s be honest, one of the main reasons we’re watching (besides Olivia’s fantastic wardrobe and crazy situations that she’s asked to “fix”) is Scott Foley.

And when Olivia’s had a long day at the office, she turns to her poison of choice, red wine (TV Characters—they’re just like us!). In every situation, you must always ask yourself, “What Would Olivia Pope Do?” Asking for my fellow Gladiators…
How To Get Away With Murder: By the third hour, it’s time for a refill. And you’ll need it, as Shonda’s newest show keeps you on the edge of your couch for the entire 60 minutes. Viola Davis is so bad-ass as ruthless law professor Annalise Keating and selects five students (one of them being Orange Is The New Black’s Matt McGorry!) on how to get away with murder.
She’s ruthless and demanding with her students, but also has, yep, drama of her own in dealing with a flimsy husband. While this series definitely pushes the boundaries in terms of sexuality (fantastically led by Jack Falahee as Connor), each character has his or her own web of issues, and that’s what makes this show one not to miss. By the way, Paris Geller from Gilmore Girls returns all grown up as Bonnie, Professor Keating’s assistant.
With three take-charge women in Meredith Gray, Olivia Pope, and now Annalise Keating, what can’t Shonda do? And when can we expect a crossover episode?
Besides, isn’t Thursday so much better than Friday?
