You’ve seen the reds. Taylor Swift, Zooey Deschanel, Gwen Stefani, etc.

You’ve contemplated the reds. Orange red, red red, pink red???

You’ve been intimidated by the reds. What do I do with this?

But you should not be scared. Head straight for your local CVS/Macy’s/Sephora/Target and pick up a tube of red lipstick. Your lips need it. YOU need it.

Whatever doubts you have about going to work or out to the bar or to the grocery store with a coat of red on your lips, forget them. Stop making excuses. You can do this.

“But I don’t wear makeup!” Well, start. There’s nothing more classic than a red lip. Marilyn Monroe, hello! You won’t look like a child who just tried out her first play makeup kit. Just take a nod from your old coloring book, and stay within the lines.

“I don’t know which red to pick!” This is why Google exists. There’s a red for every skin tone. A true red like MAC Ruby Woo fits everyone. You can also deviate into orangey or pinky reds depending on your coloring. And go ahead and splurge on a red lipstick. Buy it at Sephora. You can return it if you hate it, no questions asked.

“I can’t pull off a strong color!” Yes, you can. And you should. You rock that red, and you own it. You are adorable like Taylor Swift. You are iconic like Marilyn Monroe. You are badass like Gwen Stefani. Am I getting somewhere yet?

“I have nowhere to go with red lipstick on.” That’s not true. You can go get groceries. You can check your mail. You can sit at home and watch Netflix. I guarantee that red will bring you confidence no matter what you do.

So what are you waiting for? Stop what you’re doing and go slick on some red. Just think of all the possibilities now. Corals, magentas, maybe even a Lorde-esque purple? (Props to you if you get there. I’m not at that level. Yet.)
