Do you remember back in high school when you weren’t allowed to show even a square inch of shoulder because you might distract the boys? *eye roll* And somehow all through college it still felt wrong to wear shirts that show off your shoulders in the classroom? Well, you aren’t in school anymore. It is time to free your shoulders and show everyone that shoulders really aren’t the big deal they made them out to be in school.

Luckily, off-the-shoulder tops are the tops to wear now. I am so excited for this trend that I already have a few tops in my closet and a few more in my online shopping carts. I can’t wait to wear these tops without fear of being called to the principals office for being out of dress code. Although, I may still feel a little guilty showing my shoulders when I have been taught for so long that they should be concealed, but that just makes this trend even better. I feel like a rebel.

Below I have compiled a list of six off-the shoulder tops that will hopefully help you feel like a rebel too. It’s time to let your shoulders shine!

1. This Handkerchief Printed Off-The-Shoulder Top

Okay, so some people wouldn’t consider this a true off-the-shoulder top because of the spaghetti straps, but those people obviously don’t know how hard it is to keep off-the-shoulder tops from sliding down sometimes. What I love most about this top is the handkerchief print. This summer a lot of fashionista’s are wearing handkerchiefs around their necks as accessories, but why not go all out and make the handkerchief print the statement of the outfit?

2. This Red Riding Hood Inspired Off-The-Shoulder Top

If little red were a twenty-something today, she would definitely be seen wearing this top during a night out and hopefully smart enough not to talk to any strange wolves at the night club. Capes are slowly emerging from their graves where they were buried a few years ago when the trend died. I predict that they will make a full comeback by this fall and this top is perfect to get an early start on that trend because the the off-the-shoulder neckline makes it trendy now and keeps it trendy until the cape trend is in full swing again.

3. This Lacy, Peplum Off-The-Shoulder Top

Sometimes, you just want to be extra girly. What is girlier than a pink, lacy, peplum, off-the-shoulder, sweetheart neckline top? Not much. I know that sounds like a lot a details for one article of clothing, but they all work cohesively to create a flirty top that creates the gorgeous hour-glass figure that we all strive for.

4. This Modern And Minimal Striped Off-The-Shoulder Top

I think the biggest trend within the off-the-shoulder trend is stripes. Usually, they are black and white stripes or blue and white stripes. The stripes create a long, slimming silhouette. It’s the perfect top for girls with a petite frame. To keep with the contemporary look of this top, I recommend pairing it with a pair of boyfriend jeans and strappy sandals and a great pair of sunglasses as a cool accessory.

5. This Sweetheart Off-The-Shoulder Bodysuit

Yep. You read the header of this one right. This top is actually a bodysuit! That makes this trend very versatile. It can be worn with shorts, jeans,  and skirts to create a seamless tuck that won’t come undone. Plus, sweetheart necklines are flattering on any body shape. Oh! And is anyone else getting Sandy vibes from Grease with this bodysuit or is that just me?

6. This Off-The-Shoulder Twist On A Chambray Top

I love chambray tops. They pair perfectly with white skinny jeans and a red lip. This is a great top to take that pretty classic outfit combination and make it a little more trendy with the off-the-shoulder neckline. I also love the little knot/bow on the sleeves. To make this outfit extra trendy I recommend swapping out the red lip for a red handkerchief tied around the neck so the knot of the handkerchief matches the knot of the sleeve.
