The first CD I ever got was .. Baby One More Time by Britney Spears. Since then, I’ve been hooked. My number one lady (oops, hi mom!).
From 1999 to 2004, Britney was the queen of pop. Albums full of hits were being released and all was right in the world.
2004 to 2006 is when you could say things got bumpy. With a marriage to back up dancer Kevin Federline and the birth of her two children Sean Preston and Jayden James, Brit’s life got hectic. The worst of these times is clearly the marriage to Federline, Sean and Jayden are gifts to earth, FYI.
2007 brought the worst out in Spears with drug addiction, in and out of rehab several times, the cutting of her hair, a mental break down, wild outbursts towards paparazzi and family troubles.
Funny thing is, besides the paparazzi outbreaks, those are all things that happen to everyday people.
Drug addiction? It happens.
Rehab? Definitely happens.
Hair Cuts? If you don’t cut your hair, you’re a crazy person.
Mental breakdowns? Happens to me all the time, sure it happens to some of you.
Family troubles? You betcha.
So why is it that America feels the need to constantly bring the darkest times of someones life to light?
This day and age, an outburst from a celebrity is seen as entertainment, people enjoy it. It’s not looked at as an outcry for help. Nothing has changed since 2007 as in recent years, Amanda Bynes went through the same issues and people mocked her on the Internet and made her mental health to be a joke.
NEWS FLASH: No one’s mental health is a joke. Celebrity or not, no one’s issues should be put on blast for the world to make fun of and judge. Which is why I am sick of the 2007 Britney Spears jokes.
“If Britney can make it through 2007, you can make it through today.”
Comparing a crappy day by your standards to a year filled with darkness of someone else’s is not okay. It never was and never will be.
I won’t sit here and pretend to know what someone else is going through, but I don’t think many of the situations I see this moment compared to are even close in comparison. Your ONE day compared to a hell hole of a year, is nothing.
You need motivation? Try Pinterest.
But you’re all right. Britney did survive 2007, but it wasn’t because she motivated herself by comparing it to someone else’s downfall. She survived on her own.
That’s why she’s STILL the queen.
That is why she is killing it with a multi-million dollar show in Vegas for the last couple of years.
That’s why she’s still pumping out hits.
And that’s why she’s my hero. I look up to her because she overcame the darkest days and found the light. She proves each and everyday that you can reinvent yourself, that you can get better. Britney proves to everyone that the bad times will pass.
It’s been 10 years now, if you’re still making Britney survived jokes, you probably need more help than a stupid, outdated phrase to help you make it through your days.
LOVE YOU FOREVER BRIT BRIT, KEEP DOING YOU BABE.
